BTSF World Lot 4 and 5 awarded to OPERA Consortium

Call for tender n° EAHC/2012/BTSF/10: Organisation and implementation of training activities on improving and strengthening the sanitary and phytosanitary framework in non-EU Member countries (“BTSF World”) under the “Better Training for Safer Food” initiative

The tender covers the organisation and implementation of training activities in non-EU countries to improve and strengthen the Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) framework to allow better production, processing and trade of safe food, healthy animals and plants.

The training sessions, organised in the form of workshops (including practical sessions, laboratory trainings and roundtable exchanges) and technical assistance missions (so-called sustained training missions STMs), will be carried out in different regions of the world and will be exclusively addressed to non-EU countries that have a major interest in the above mentioned issues in view of the important trade or potential they maintain. Staff of competent authorities of non-EU countries, smallholder farmers and other relevant stakeholders will be invited to participate in these training activities.

The consortium led by OPERA with Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia ed Emilia Romagna and VetEffect BV have been awarded Lot 4: Animal health and welfare in Africa and ENP countries and Lot 5: Animal health and welfare in South, Central America and the Caribbean.

Planned activities

TASK 1: Regional training workshops

  • Lot 4: 3 regional workshops respectively on FMD control, Animal Health and PPT to be held in ENP countries (EU financed African Veterinary Governance programme covers events in Africa)
  • Lot 5: 6 regional workshops in Brazil and Costa Rica – Animal Welfare; Bolivia and Cuba – Animal Disease Control; Paraguay and Ecuador – FMD Control;

The workshops will be organised at regional level with an average of 10 to 15 countries to be invited and 45/60 participants for each workshop.

TASK 2: Sustained training and technical assistance missions (STMs)

The STMs will be carried out in:

  • Lot 4: Animal health and welfare in Africa and ENP countries: overall 220 working days
  • Lot 5: Animal health and welfare in South, Central America and the Caribbean: overall 85 working day
